O2 Iphone Upgrade a Shambles

It has been announced today that the much awaited "new" iphone will not be easy to get your hands on if you are already tied in to an o2 contract.

The iphone 3GS due for release in 10 days is promissed to be faster. They say "the S stands for speed", but for o2 the S stands for shambles.

Upgrading will mean you have to buy out of your contract inorder to ungrade.

Shane Richmond at the Telegraph reports that "Someone who bought their iPhone 3G on the day of release will have at least six months left on their contract. On O2's middle tariff, £35 a month, that means paying more than £200 to end the contract and a further £274.23 to buy the new 3GS on the same tariff."

The Iphone 3G release was well orcastrated by o2 who managed to get all the existing customers with the original iphone a simple upgrade for a couple of hundred quid.

Now boys love their toys, and o2 who "currently" are the exclusive iPhone vendors for apple are facing a fearfull battle as i'm not sure that loyalty will provail.

So far I've had bad experiences with, T-mobile, 3G, and now o2. In tough "L" shapped reccession times like these, i really worry whether scaring off customers is such a great idea.

Back to the point, a facebook group has been created where the email address of certain o2 managers and thier direct numbers have been published, by an angered employee named Luke Evans.

There is however a glimer of hope. Luke Evans reported on the facebook group of a loop hole... a way to get what we all deserve! He said "If you have the 16GB current iPhone 3G, surely, if you are under insurance, if you break your phone, you can get the 16GB 3GS since there is no more 16GB iPhone 3G. I can't see them forcing you to have an 8GB 3G, since they replace the phone with another of 'similar value'. The 3GS is only £20 more subsidised."

Let us unite my fellow geeks.... and fight the power in the only way we know how.... Hit Twitter, Change your facebook Status, Join a Facebook Group. Individually we stand still... United We Stand Strong!!! LOL.... no seriously folks spread the word!
