Why Microsoft Doesn't Give SMTP access to hotmail

I was thinking about this and I may have come up with the reason. Its very simple, really, when you think about it.

I recently saw this article which I havn't tried as of yet. Let me know how it goes. how to configure microsoft outlook to access hotmail and yahoo mail accounts

The reason that Microsoft do NOT give out STMP access (for outlook thunderbird) to their hotmail services is because they would lose too much money in the banner adverts that they place around the inbox.

I think however microsoft should give us SMTP access and just send out junk mail. We could then block these junk mails and then not need to use the hotmail interface.
While we're on the subject, I really don't like the new layout to the hotmail system, I much prefer the ol'skool layout. It was cleaner and logical to use (possible as it has hardly changed since I was at school).

My question to you is: how many different emails have you had since you started?
I started in around 1998 and have had around 12 different email addresses.
